Heartbreak!

... for me, that is. These fans posed for a picture, but I was unable to focus from behind my tears.

I suppose the collective prayers of the Italian supporters was louder than mine... *sob* ... Or maybe this is my punishment for wishing Portugal out of world cup contention. It was painful enough for me when the Soca Warriors lost to England. I still remember exactly where I was when France won in '98 ... I was at that bar place in Grand Bazzar (gosh, what's it called?)... I was cheering for Brazil then. I neglected Les Bleus then and there's no forgiveness for that, so I brought this upon myself!

That doesn't make it any easier to go outside and deal with the celebrations.

Hey.. better then Azzuri than the Portugese I say! Besides.. I'm familiar with the Italian anthem having withstood the Ferrari onslaught over the last 4-5 years. Go McLaren!.. Oh wait, this is a football rant..

It could be more than a football rant. You actually recognize their anthem? Good for you... :-P
This could be a comment on their fierce sense of nationalism and how it's played out in the sports arena. Hmmm...

Fierce sense of nationalism eh? This is one case where luck overcame skill (in the 2nd half and the fact ZZ had a complete meltdown). The Italians must be counting their blessings considering if they did not win, the controversy surrounding the corruption of their county league teams would have returned full force (it will to some extent but winning the world cup more than overcompensates for that).

All that being said, they played well through adversity considering the expectations weren't great coming into the world cup, same goes for France as well. Two pizza slices (with extra pepperoni) up for the Azzurri!

I don't know if we can blame it all on luck. There may have been some degree of calculated effort on Materazzi's part. Either way, the Italians mustn't forget to thank him for winning the game for them (even though he had a fair bit of help from Zidane).
I refer to it nationalism, but in the recent press it's being called racism - and that charge is indeed fierce.

Beautifully stated...

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time.

You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
