Canadian Grand Prix

Mtl was great and we're already looking forward to going back!

We actually walked along Rue St. Catherine while the guys were at the track for the qualifying on Saturday - and I squeezed in a fair bit of shopping while we checked out the roadside race displays! We liked our host and we had a great time with him and his friends at the beach on Sunday. Although we didn't get enough of the bar/club scene, we had enough to dance one night away.

These are a few of our memories:

A cool spot outside the museum

MS video taped the track events, so we should have that at some point.

I had a totally fun weekend ... but then I didn't have to drive!

Gearing up for F1

We're going to Mtl. for the Grand Prix this weekend!

I was supposed to pack my bag(s) last night, but I did not - no surprise there. I tried to pack this morning but it didn't happen because I had to do my laundry. So, I'll be going home 1/2 hr before we leave to throw a few things in my bag and be on my way.

It's a 5 hr drive to get there. This should be just as delightful as waking up during the wee hours of the A.M. to watch the F1 races, right MS? I hope you're all prepared for the trip - bring lots of food and some DVDs!

Building a beautiful life

"The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes" - Frank Lloyd Wright

Google’s homepage logo was dedicated to him today. He was born on this day in 1867 and went on to become one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. He pioneered the Prairie style. I like his innovative concepts and apparently others liked it as well since it has come to be generally accepted.

He, like most remarkable people, lived a life full of major triumphs and tragedies and he still thought it was beautiful. I guess that's what made it beautiful.

Those words could be an inspiration to us all. I know it is to me – I’m eager to see what’s ahead!

Life's a Beach

As the mercury finally soared up to 30C yesterday, Virginie and I went to Ashbridges Beach. There were many people there – in-line skating or biking on the boardwalk, sailing, playing volleyball or just relaxing on the sand. I felt that tingle of anticipation as I placed my blanket on the hot sand.

I always loved going to the seaside. I did it often enough as a child and quite often during my first year at university. Sometimes there were family gatherings with an abundance of food and fun or friends and an excess of alcohol and revelry or a combination of both. Going to the beach was like a ritual that I performed piously and enjoyed tremendously. It would leave me feeling physically and emotionally cleansed and after every visit I was ready to take on the world again. I still get excited at the prospect of swimming around aimlessly and soaking up the sunshine all day.

This time was not like that. I was not impressed. I had been there before. It was on the shore of Lake Ontario. There were no waves, no coconut/palm trees, no food or family. The water was too cold to swim. Virginie was in her bikini trying to get a tan and I was sheltered from the sun but got more of a tan than she did. I didn’t like it so I just gave up and tried to read my law text (which she had carried, so I was obligated to read).

Almost too quickly, the mix of blue water, cool breeze and the scorching sunshine won me over. It was beautiful! I was amazed at how easy it was to escape from the bustle of downtown. It was hard to believe that we were just near the barricaded red carpet site for the new inductees to the Canada Walk of Fame less than 10 minutes away. (It was cool that Alanis finally got her star. Rohan and I used to listen to all her music). I actually had sand between my toes and it was comforting to realise that the feeling was not restricted to my yearly visit to T’dad. I just had to give it a chance.

As I enjoy the complexities of this metropolis, it’s nice to find something within it that reminds me of the simple pleasures in life.

Happy Birthday Kerri!

It's Friday again and today my cousin will be celebrating one of her milestone birthdays. It's too bad that I can't be there to party with her. Ok, she's not the party type in the traditional sense but I'm sure she can host a fun-filled day, can't you Ker? ;-)

Best wishes to you and a Big Hug on your big day!

You're a wonderful person/cousin/friend to me and I wish you a year full of all the great things that you deserve.
