Miles away from ordinary

My last longing look at the white sand beaches and aquamarine waters that I won't see when I go back to North America.

Third World Charm

The airports in this part of the world are so different from the ones in the big cities - namely Pearson Int'l - I almost expected to see goats or cattle sauntering across the tarmac.

There are no fancy lights and signals here, just the rudimentary markings necessary for take-off and landing. That's one more reason for me to adore Barbados!

Shubh Diwali

On the darkest night of the year, I lit one deya. That's all it takes because that one light can penetrate the night and illuminate the darkest corner.

Here's to the triumph of light over darkness, enlightment over ignorance and peace over injustice.

Quad Squad

How the kids have grown! I went to school with these peeps but didn't hang out with any of them back then. I missed out - they're such beautiful people!

L-R : Ray, Vannie, Sirju, Me, Resh

"Please tell me that's not your Mum AGAIN?!" She's so sweet - she called every 20 mins to ask if I was alright. "Yes Mummy, I'm ok". I had an escort and she still felt the need to check in. I think she forgets that I've grown up too.

UWI HS Celebration

These decorations were made of rice! (00000's of coloured rice grains!)

The ceremonies are held in the quad nowadays and it seems a lot less festive than when we used to be responsible for organizing it. It was very well done though. I can't post the rest of pics because I entrusted the picture-taking to Van and Ray and I didn't get an explanation as to why they're All out of focus.

Stray

This one just flew in to the cage and stayed there. He figured that it was easier to let Mummy take care of him than to fend for himself.

He's not so nice to the ones that were already there but he's a lot nicer to me than they ever were.

We named him Stray.

Giving Back

At this time last year, I was too overwhelmed to understand/feel/care about anything, so I took this opportunity to do what Mum and I would have been happy to do then.

There hasn't been a single day since then when I haven't thought of my Daddy. I continue to miss him but I've learned to be grateful for all that I still have.
Mummy keeps reminding me of how fortunate I am and how I have a responsibilty to give back a bit of what I've been given. It was such a joy to be able to bring a smile to these people and it went so well that we'll make it a regular event (in my Dad's honour).

I'd like to say thanks to my family and friends who helped to cook, package and distribute the meals on both days. Thank you for your support today and through all the days leading up to today. I'm truly blessed to have you in my life.
